I would love to be funny.
But I am not.
Not deliberately at least.

People only laugh when I express anger or irritation.

Here is an example...

A few years ago, I was with a friend and a few other folks going to class.

We all greeted each other.
Selam.(hi)
How are you?

There was one girl among us who complained about everything.

Oh I have a headache. She announces. A really bad headache.
I am going to go back to the dorm and pray to God so I can get rid of it.

I paused to look at her. She wasn't kidding.

Seriously? Are you seriously going to pray about a headache? I asked her.
Do you think your headache should interrupt the other more serious problems God has to deal with?

I was a teenager and found her selfish.
The idea that she could summon God to deal with her nonsense issue - while there were children around the world dying really annoyed me.

And those type of reactions - people find funny.
My friend laughs when she remembers that day.

Maybe this is a type of humor.

Many comedians have built careers by talking about what annoys them.

@keni I enjoy few things more than making people laugh and I've often been called the class clown. I sometimes wish I'd considered trying stand up, but not sure I have the stomach for it. So I do try writing what I think is funny stuff from time to time. Problem is I'm likely the only one laughing to myself.

Also, remember you can always be and have fun without being funny.

@Rawhead - there is something very appealing about being funny though. I do have fun regardless but to get your message across, humor is a good catalyst.

“If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.”
    George Bernard Shaw

lol why do you think that you are not funny except in moments of emotional impulse? Do you think it is because you are taken as a very serious and proper person?

@abrahamKim - unfortunately yes. Everyone makes that assumption.... But my close friends know that I am not like that.

My brother finds me funny so it may be all about taste I guess.

Love George Bernard Shaw btw. His quotes are priceless

But yes I agree that humor makes it easy to bring up difficult topics - like the truth.

@keni Humor is a funny thing (pun intended.) There are master comedians who try to be funny and are successful. These are few and far between. I think most people who are funny are not necessarily trying to be funny. The ones that are trying too hard are boring to me. I have an oddball sense of humor like my dad.

@brandonwilson - Yeah I agree... People who aren't trying to be funny are usually more funny. I am the same with humor from my dad too.
